For many smaller low risk companies, the legal minimum for first aid provision is to have someone in their company who simply looks after first aid – this is the First Aid Appointed Person.

This First Aid Appointed Person in the Workplace training programme concludes with a 10 question multiple choice test with printable certificate. In addition, brief in-course questionnaires guide the user through the sections of the training, and are designed to reinforce learning and ensure maximum user engagement throughout. Legislation

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 requires employers to:

  • Provide adequate and appropriate first aid equipment
  • Provide adequate and appropriate first aid facilities
  • Provide adequate and appropriate first aid personnel
  • Provide Risk Assessments
  • Inform Employees of the First Aid arrangements

An employer shall provide, or ensure that there are provided, such equipment and facilities as are adequate and appropriate in the circumstances for enabling first-aid to be rendered to his employees if they are injured or become ill at work.

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, Section 3 (1)

The legal minimum requirement is that someone is appointed to look after first aid requirements. They are not required to administer first aid and so do not need full first aid training, but they must be present to take charge if someone is injured or becomes ill at work. The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 must be followed by ALL workplaces, including those with fewer than 5 employees.
